Security Council, the United Nations has adopted a Presidential Statement strongly condemn North Korea recently failed to launch satellites using ballistic technologies. “The rapid and unanimous adoption of the presidential statement is stronger,” said u.s. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice, “shows that the international community is United in sending a clear message to North Korea as a serious provocation and totally unaccep.”
Security Council made clear that the launch, even if characterized as a satellite launch vehicle or space launchers, “serious breach” of Security Council resolution 1718 and 1874. The launch has been causing grave security in the region.
Security Council has demanded that North Korea does not proceed any further Launches using ballistic missile technology that North Korea and meet its based on previous Security Council resolutions suspend all activities related to ballistic missile programmes and the use of missile launch moratorium. The Security Council also demanded that North Korea meet its based on previous Security Council resolutions, including that left its programs, stop all nuclear-related activities, and do not do any further nuclear test or launch, any further provocations.
To ensure that there are consequences for North Korea’s actions, the Security Council sanctions Committee of North Korea was directed to make another round of sanctions targeted North Korea entity designations and identifying and banning additional sensitive to the proliferation of technology from being transferred to or from North Korea. The Committee will take steps to improve enforcement of existing sanctions.
United States, for its part, will propose to the Committee the North Korea sanctions package new designations, including the names of the companies that are responsible for North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and North Korea’s list of technical items that needs to continue its programs forbidden.
